What’s your background and how did you get into AI art?

I’ve been a traditional painter my entire life, primarily using oils (I enjoy the fumes) and more recently, digital mediums. I began exploring AI exactly a year ago when I contracted COVID for the first time. Too weak to stand at my canvas, I decided to delve into AI to capture the dystopian visions that my fever dreams were gifting me. My very first piece, a blend of AI and my digital painting skills, was quite successful. “SUNDAY BEST / FALSE IDOLS” won second prize in the Claire Silver art contest.

Do you have a specific project you’re currently working on? What is it?

Yes, I’m working on my second large collection in collaboration with Foundation, scheduled for around the 13th of September. I also have some top-secret plans, so stay tuned for more updates.

What drives you to create?

There is no greater high than the wave of satisfaction one feels when a piece is finally just right. It never stops being a rush. And I have a 100% selfish desire to live on through my work.

What does your workflow look like?

Pure, unadulterated chaos. I often have no idea which direction things will take. I use whatever is at hand whenever I feel like it. An old canvas might be painted over and used as a background. After that, I might go digital, and then perhaps introduce an AI element. I would describe my process as a mixed-media chaos engine. The only constants in my process are red wine and black coffee.

What is your favourite prompt when creating art?

I like my prompts pretty pared down - I’m an AI basic bitch. Here’s the prompt for the piece that I won Claire’s contest with:

black figures falling + brutalist building + dystopian world + black and white

How do you imagine AI (art) will be impacting society in the near future?

I see AI as becoming as uncontroversial as photography, with the AI haters being silenced for good. I also envision it evolving beyond our wildest dreams, and I’m here for all of it.

Who is your favourite artist?

Trad: @andreszighelbo1 – look at his work and try not to fall in love. I DARE YOU!

AI: @bl_artcult aka The Sensei, he is the epitome of deeply nuanced, edgy work.

I’m also deeply influenced by Dali, Evelyn De Morgan, Paul Mapplethorpe and of course Warhol.

But of all the artists, my ultimate favorite has to be Basquiat. His work inspired me to become an artist, and it remains as fresh today as it was back then. A timeless King.
